3D printed PETG thread protection
Reusable hand-fit caps for protecting geotechnical drill rod threads during unboxing, storage, transport and handling.
Designed as a complete cap assembly to cover and protect male and female rod ends. The partial half-thread engagement protects the thread without locking the cap fully onto the rod.
These caps help prevent thread damage, dirt ingress, salt contamination and impact marks while rods are stored, shipped or prepared for use.
Covers the threaded rod end to reduce damage during transport, workshop storage and offshore handling.
Outer grip features allow the cap to be screwed on and removed manually, including with gloves.
Half-thread engagement is intentional: it protects the rod thread without fully locking or binding to the rod.

PETG engineering plastic
PETG is used because it offers a practical balance of toughness, impact resistance, dimensional stability and moisture resistance for protective storage parts.
The caps are intended to protect rod threads during storage, transport, handling and unboxing. They are not pressure-rated, not load-bearing and not intended as operational subsea sealing components.
For long-term storage, apply a light film of marine grease or a suitable corrosion inhibitor to keep the rod threads clean and make later removal easier.
Clean the thread face, apply a light grease film if required, then screw the cap on by hand only. Do not use tools or over-tighten.
Remove grit, salt, swarf and debris from the male or female rod end before fitting the cap.
Use a light film of marine grease, lithium grease or thread preservation compound for longer storage periods.
Align squarely and turn by hand until seated. Remove counter-clockwise by hand.
